The in-laws were in town for a few days, which is a good thing – I have really cool in-laws. They can come anytime they want. And not just because they always pay for lunch and dinner (though I did sneak cash into a register at a school function Friday before they noticed).
For lunch, we headed to one of our favorite little Cuban places and, even though it was cool and rainy outside, it was humid enough inside to build up a little sweat.
I know I complain about the weather here in Georgia occasionally. Okay … a lot. But there’s only so many ways you can photograph Hot and Sunny and Humid. You need changes in the weather to make better photos. Even when it rains here, it’s not much of a photo. You try, but you get … well … just wet.
Unless you try something different.
Every semester, I find a way to torture myself. Not in some metaphysical, psychological way (that I do daily), but in some truly pain inducing, sleep depriving holistic way. Saturday was this semester’s attempt.
I succeeded.
An old newspaper friend, worried about the death of his industry, has been dragged onto a committee to deal with survival. (Boy, that sounds optimistic, eh?) He occasionally thinks of himself as being a funny guy (which is why we get along so well, I think of myself as a funny guy even though I know I’m not) and forwarded me his list of semi-tongue-in-cheek ideas.
I read it a few times, then started thinking … you know, there’s something here …
Okay, if you don’t know me, you might think Declan is the family pet. Or a newborn. But he’s not … he’s better.
Athens has what I suspect is the highest percentage of early-80s cars on 22 inch wheels of any city on the East Coast. And, while I’m entertained by the 10 inches of ground clearance on the average Buick Regal here, I don’t much like the idea for me.
Out with the littlest one, we stopped for lunch on campus. With a thousand options, he made a bee line to the fast food area … where we patiently waited for new fries and chicken nuggets to appear under the hot lights.
