This hotel complex, which has gone through a few names, came down this week. I haven’t gotten around to the backside, but one of the best music rooms in town was there – the Foundry. It opened (as the Melting Point) when I moved here 21 years ago and I did some photo work for them in their first six months, documenting the musicians who came through.

Great sound, brutally low light levels but a very neat place. Have seen a lot of greats there, including James McMurtry, the BoDeans, Sam Bush and so many others. I hope it isn’t lost.

The college’s building is getting a clean and refresh this summer on the exterior. The core structure of our building is good, I do wish we had a little less concrete popcorn on the exterior, though.

Serendipity

Athens, Georgia

Construction has me rerouting on the way home. Not sure why, but the yellows had me stop. Then I started to explore a bit.

First, just the building, portapotty, yellow curb and double yellow line. Then a walker approached and a bike rider came through. The walker lined up in a curb break. I headed back to my car and found a yellow gas pipe, then some caution tape.

Then the yellow motorcycle … serendipity.
