Wrapping up the Woodall Weekend Workshop, three long days of students figuring out who they are as visual journalists. Lots of growth, lots of laughter and probably lots of tears.

Day two of the workshop and my friend Billy Weeks got me out of the editing space to explore a bit, an annual tradition.

We are up in Lumpkin County with the students for the 14th Annual Woodall Weekend Workshop. This year, we’re headquartering out of Dahlonega, site of the first US gold rush.

Every spring, thousands of students here prepare for their departure by traipsing around campus and making photos of themselves by the iconic landmarks. They also have a habit of taking along confetti to toss in the air – and then they don’t clean it up, leaving a mess everywhere.
And, as the guy who shows up in searches for UGA and photos, I get phone calls and emails … trust me, this is not being done by my kids. They actually care.

Spring is in the air and so are the cream pies on campus.

Traffic was slow on the way home. Very, very slow.
