Earlier this year I was appointed to the board of directors of the Red and Black, the independent student news organization that covers the University of Georgia. (I’m a non-voting member as my faculty status poses a conflict of interest.) The summer board meeting brought some good news on both the business and editorial fronts, looking forward to a strong year of coverage.

They claim to sell wall art and clothes, but really they’re just vandals.

The first floor water fountain disappeared, leaving a gaping hole in the wall, and revealing that the electrical outlet is directly below the water supply line which seems … odd?

After nearly a decade of use, I’ve retired the $20 hollow-core door that was my main desk. And that meant most of the office had to come apart or come down. A board that holds rally dash plaques stayed in place, but a metal sheet for holding photos did get moved up a bit.

We’ve been in this house for more than eight years and yet I’m still surprised at the shortcuts I find previous owners have taken. Was it that hard to take the window grills out? Really?
