Last summer, the county removed a memorial to Confederate soldiers from the middle of downtown. By state law, they had to put it back up somewhere and now they have. Still bearing graffitied evidence of last summer’s protest, the granite obelisk sits on an out of the way street near the site of the only Civil War skirmish in the county.
