More than a decade ago, my late colleague Conrad Fink began laying the groundwork for a sports journalism program at the University of Georgia. Nine years ago, we hired Vicki Michaelis to launch it. Today, we officially opened the John Huland Carmmichael Sports Media Institute.
Fink’s vision was clear, Michaelis’ has been focused. Proud to have been able to call both of them friends, I only wish they could have met each other.

We did not expect to be back at the University of Georgia vet hospital, but here we are. Licorice was having some eye issues and in a lot of pain. An exam, some eye drops to reduce swelling and we were on our way home with a significant amount of relief. Still a risk of something else causing the pressure build up, but she’s much better.
Living two miles from a vet ER brings you a lot of relief.

Dink NeSmith has purchased the weekly paper in an adjoining county, set it up as a non-profit and is letting us use it as a teaching lab for our students. We met today to hammer out ideas and plans. A committment to Georgia is a committment for life.
